Basketball Philosophy

Compete with Toughness, Intelligence, and Purpose

I believe basketball is best played by high-motor individuals who compete with toughness, intelligence, and purpose. Talent matters, but the most effective teams are built with players who understand how to contribute to winning and consistently elevate the group around them.

Why Shooting Matters

My eyes have always been drawn to shooting. It creates space, expands offensive possibilities, and makes roster construction significantly more flexible. In today's game, it is difficult to build a sustainable roster without shooting, basketball IQ, and toughness. Those qualities translate across levels, systems, and roles.

The Evaluation Process

My evaluation process combines the eye test with analytics. I use data to identify trends and tendencies, challenge assumptions, and validate what I see on film. Neither should operate independently. The strongest evaluations come from understanding how the numbers and the film support, contradict, or add context to one another.

Coaching Perspective

My coaching experience has strengthened my perspective as an evaluator. Understanding the daily process behind winning, including preparation, role acceptance, decision-making, communication, and competitive habits, helps me identify players who can transition smoothly into a team's system and culture.

Continuous Growth

I love evaluating talent, studying the game, and thinking through how individual pieces fit together to form a cohesive roster. I am also humble enough to recognize that evaluation is never an exact science. I will not always be right, which is why I remain committed to studying players, tracking outcomes, questioning my own conclusions, and continually improving my process.

The Journey

From Court to the Front Office

Stanford University Program Leader

As a Stanford standout, I rank sixth all-time in three-point field goals made, a mark that still stands 17 years later. A two-time All Pac-10 Honorable Mention, I averaged 16.2 points per game and hit 71 three-pointers my senior year, demonstrating consistent excellence and leadership. I earned a Communication degree from Stanford, which continues to inform my work in leadership, media, and mentorship.

Pro Career

Following my collegiate career, I played professionally for 11 years across the NBA D-League (now G League) and nine international leagues — most notably France, Israel, Italy, Poland, and Ukraine. That international experience exposed me to diverse coaching styles, team cultures, and competitive systems, reinforcing a global and adaptable approach to the game.

Entrepreneurship & Storytelling

While playing overseas, I co-founded Swish Cultures and simultaneously served as the company's Chief Marketing Officer, helping shape modern basketball storytelling and connect global perspectives to the evolving game.

NBA Scouting & Talent Evaluation

From 2020 to 2025, I served as a Draft Scout for the Detroit Pistons, playing a key role in evaluating top domestic and international basketball prospects during a pivotal rebuilding phase. In this position, I conducted comprehensive player analysis through live scouting, advanced film study, and research on player development trajectories. My insights directly informed the organization's draft strategy, contributing to collaborative decision-making with front office leadership and strengthening the team's long-term talent pipeline.

Coaching

For the 2025-2026 season, I served as an Assistant Coach at Arkansas State University under head coach Ryan Pannone, a respected basketball mind who orchestrated one of the country's most explosive offenses. In this role, I contributed to player development, team strategy, and culture while leveraging my global playing and NBA scouting experience. Throughout my career, my work has been grounded in accountability, preparation, and culture, with a focus on developing athletes not only as players, but as leaders.

Leading International Talent Evaluation

Today, I serve as Director of International Scouting for the New Orleans Pelicans, leading the organization's evaluation of professional and emerging talent across international markets. The role combines live scouting, video analysis, relationship building, and long-term projection to identify players whose skill sets align with the team's vision and style of play. Working closely with the front office and basketball operations staff, I provide strategic evaluations that support roster construction and long-term organizational success.
